A lot of ink has been spilt regarding when exactly Apple plans to
launch the iPhone 5, but what about the iPad 3?
The
Wall Street Journal, citing unnamed sources,
reports that Apple plans to start trial production of the next-generation iPad from October, with a view to launching the device early next year.
The iPad 3's screen will likely have double the resolution of the previous generation – 2048x1536 pixels compared to 1024x768 pixels – and a screen length of 9.7 inches.
Apple has also reportedly ordered parts for at least 1.5 million iPad 3s in the fourth quarter, as it seeks to ensure that this time around a larger number of devices are available from launch.
Hon Hai's Foxconn currently assembles iPads for Apple.
Apple will have one less competitor in the tablet market, after HP last week
revealed it will suspend development of WebOS smartphones and tablets in light of low TouchPad sales.
