France Telecom has acquired
Telecom Italia’s Elettra
submarine cable business, including two cable-laying ships, in a deal that values the Italian firm at €20 million.
Verizon Business will update its
global data centers over the next 12 months to boost its presence in cloud services. The firm plans to invest up to $17.2 billion (€12.5 billion) in its computing systems this year.
The launch of
Google’s StreetView in Brazil, Ireland and Antarctica means the service is now available in
all seven of the world’s continents.
Cable group
Hibernia Atlantic plans to
build a transatlantic cable to support high-frequency stock trading – the first new cable across the ocean in more than a decade.
New Zealand web-TV provider
Orcon will use an
Alcatel-Lucent media delivery platform to provide content to PCs, mobile phones and TV sets.
