Russian telecoms firm Sistema is mulling the acquisition of Telekom Austria, for a price significantly higher than the current €4.5 billion value by share price, the Times of Oman reports.

 

A quarter of children aged 8-12 in the UK have an account on Facebook, Bebo, or MySpace, despite those sites having a minimum age requirement of 13, according to Ofcom research.

 

UK supermarket chain Tesco is dropping its VoIP services, Tesco Internet Phone and Talk Wi-Fi, with both services to be shut down on April 27. Tesco said VoIP was no longer a sustainable service for the company.

 

BT Ireland has promoted CFO Graham Sutherland to CEO, effective from May. He will replace Chris Clark, who will take over as managing director of BT Enterprises.

 

Digg has launched an iPhone app, created by mobile content developer TapTapTap. The company said it intends to follow up with an Android app shortly.

 

News Corp will begin charging for online access to its UK Times and Sunday Times newspapers in June, the BBC reports. Access will cost £1 (€1.12) per day, or £2 per week, with subscribers to the print editions getting free access.
