Financial backing from YTL Group and technological know-how from strategic partners including Cisco, Clearwire, GCT Semiconductor and Samsung will position YTL Communications as a leading 4G player in the telecom industry in Malaysia.

Its entry as a Wimax operator is likely to further marginalize smaller Wimax operators like Asiaspace and Redtone, whose network rollouts and subscriber growth remain patchy to date. The competition will be stiff between PacketOne Networks and YTL Communications.
